The challenge
WhatsPerfume is built on a catalog of more than 100,000 perfumes. At that size the hard part isn't listing products, it's making them findable. Most sites crawl once a database gets this big: search lags, filters stall, and people give up before they find the scent they came for.
The approach
Every choice answered a fear the client walked in with.
“A catalog this big is going to be slow and clunky.”
Built on Convex for real-time search
The product database runs on Convex, so queries come back instantly. Search and navigation stay fast across all 100,000+ entries, instead of degrading the way a traditional setup would at this scale.
“Will anyone actually find the perfume they want?”
Search-first navigation
The site is built around finding, not aimless browsing. [TODO: name the real search and filter options — by brand, notes, accords — once confirmed.] A visitor goes from a vague idea to a specific bottle in seconds.
“Huge sites usually feel heavy and confusing.”
A light, fast front end
A clean interface keeps the focus on the products and keeps pages quick to move through, so the scale of the catalog never gets in the visitor’s way.
